Sony has announced two newest large-sensor cameras, the F55 and F5 works complement each others and are able to deliver powerful, new capabilities to professionals working at every level of production. These camera are equipped (with different) 4K super 35mm CMOS sensors which is able to capture 14-stops of exposure latitude with high resolution and fine tonal gradations. Lightweight modular designed to maximize versatility in 2D and 3D.

Support multiple recording formats includes HD/2K on SxS memory and 16-bit RAW 2K/4K on AXSM media Multiple recording formats include MPEG-2 HD422, MPEG4 SStP, XAVC 2K/HD and 16-bit RAW 2K/4K. With the camera, you can simultaneous recording on internal high-speed SxS PRO+ memory cards and RAW 2K/4K recording on sleek AXSM memory cards using the optional bolt-on AXS-R5 recorder, which is designed specifically to attach seamlessly to both F55 and F5 cameras. The PMW-F5 and F55 both employ HDMI V1.4a for monitoring, where the F5 can output 2K and HD up to 60K while F55 can additionally output 4K on HDMI up to 30p.

Comparatively, the F55 and F5 are feature much of the same hardware and system accessories, perhaps the most significant disparity is the F5 's lack of a global shutter. The others major difference seems to be the F5's internal recorder, which will record 2K but not 4K. However, the AXS-R5 outboard recorder will enable 4K on the F5 and effectively negate its internal recorder's relative shortcomings.
